Pedestrian Struck Crossing Route 9 In Marlboro

A pedestrian was struck by a car on Sunday night as he crossed Route 9 in Monmouth County, authorities said.

Nathanial Martinez was crossing the highway about 9:10 p.m. when he was struck in a northbound lane near Willow Lane, according to Marlboro Township police.

Martinez was struck by a Kia Seltos driven by Lauren Wlodarski, 26, of Rockaway, police said. 

Martinez was taken by the Morganville First Aid Squad to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with broken bones and internal injuries, according to police 

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but police said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors.

It is possible that Martinez was struck by a second vehicle, police said.

Route 9 northbound was closed for about three hours during the investigation.
